One sunday afternoon last winter, in august, I decided to go with a friend of mine, I think his name was Alex, for a bike ride. We were going to his parents. It was very cold. He said that his parents were waiting for us, so we had to hurry. We were cycling along a country lane when we saw some children playing on a frozen pond. I think that they were about 10 years old. They were playing tag. Suddenly we heard a shout. To our horror one of the boys, the oldest one, had fallen through the ice! He slipped and fell, but he was very heavy so the ice broke. We immediately rushed over to help but it was too dangerous to walk across the ice .
The boy was shouting, and struglling not to drown. My friend and I ran ro borrow a ladder from a house near by. I put the ladder on the ice and crawled very carefully across it towards the boy. Now the boy started to scream even louder. I caught hold of him, and finally managed to pull him out of the icy water. Luckily the boy wasn't hurt , just very frightened. His parents turned up about ten minutes later. When they saw him wet and terrified, next to my friend on the ground, they were shocked and very angry with him! I felt a bit sorry for the boy. He had certainly learnt a lesson - the hard way!
